For IMMEDIATE Release - April 26, 2002
Local singer/songwriter/performer, Jen Porter has been honored with a position among other esteemed female performers such as Odetta, The Chantels, Michelle Shocked and more by being asked to be a songleader for the Girl Scouts of America's 90th Anniversary Sing-Along on the Mall in Washington DC on June 8th, 2002. Jen will be leading a few songs from the official Girl Scout SongBook and performing a few of her own original songs to a crowd of over 100,000. "I can hardly wait!" exclaims Jen. "My mother actually wrote a song that's in the songbook - I'd love to lead that one," Jen said. When Jen was only a girl in scouts herself, she was leading songs with her mother, who was integral in the music leadership of Girl Scouts and was, at one time, President of the Dupage County chapter of the Girl Scouts of America. "Not only do I get to lead 100,000 plus Scouts and friends of Girl Scouting, I also get to perform some of my original work.
I'm really excited at the prospect of exposing an huge new audience to Jen Porter. My only experience close to that was singing the National Anthem for the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Fire, both for crowds of around 40,000 people. This is like a scene right out of Forrest Gump...seriously!" The Sing Along is from 1:30p to 4:00p on Saturday. For more information, click here to visit the website. The Sing-Along is still waiting to find out if it will be broadcast in its entirety on CSPAN. Jen Porter currently plays at several venues around Chicago.
